A12 | Essex | Carriageway Closure | Expect Delays

The A12 is currently closed between J28 and J27 near Colchester with delays of at least 15 minutes covering several miles of the southbound carriageway. This closure is due to an Essex police led incident. Highways England has resources deployed to assist.

For traffic approaching the closure locally, you are advised to expect disruption with extra journey time and may potentially have to re-route your journey.

If travelling towards this area from further afield, you may wish to consider an alternative route, allow extra travel time and follow guidance from our on-road variable message signs and media.

Diversion route details and guidance is as follows;

Diverted traffic is advised to to exit the A12 southbound at J29 and follow the A1232 into Colchester to the twin roundabouts with the A133. Take the second exit onto the A133 for Lexden and continue through Colchester and Lexden to the A133/A1124 roundabout. At the roundabout take the second exit and re-join the A12 southbound at J27 Spring Lane.
